The bi-annual Jim Thompson sale is back this year, taking place during the weekend of June 1 to 3, 2012 at BITEC or Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center in Bangna.  The sale is usually held twice a year - in June and in December, and features the signature Thai silk products which Jim Thompson is famous for, besides cotton fabrics and accessories.  On promotion are a host of home decor items and furnishings, such as upholstery for furniture, drapery (curtains), cushion covers, and lots more.

This time the sale will also offer natural and fresh products from the Jim Thompson Farm, which is situated in Pak Thong Chai (Nakhon Ratchasima), and is basically a silk farm indulging in sericulture.  The Jim Thompson Farm is open to visitors only once a year during the cool season, and features mulberry plantations, orchards, nurseries, gardens of flowers, ornamental plants and organic vegetables, and also a rice field.  The giant pumpkin patch with a display of variety of shapes and sizes of numerous pumpkins is a favorite attraction at the farm.

Jim Thompson's main retail outlet in Bangkok is located at Surawong Road, and there's also one at the Jim Thompson House.  Besides, you can find their shops at several shopping malls and hotels, namely: Central World, Isetan, Siam Paragon, Emporium, Oriental Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel, Anantara Riverside Resort, The Peninsula Hotel, Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, and Shangri-La Hotel.  Besides Bangkok, there are also shops in Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Phuket and Samui.

AIIZ sale

As a typical female office worker, one of the most pressing dilemmas facing us is what to wear to work.   When it comes to office wear, there just seems to be no shop or store out there that have any clue as to what working women actually want to wear.  But one brand that does come close is AIIZ, which offers a wide variety of clothing styles, be it formal, semi-formal or casual.

AIIDress, a brand of AIIZ that specializes in, you guessed it right, dresses, is having an end of season sale of upto 50% off at all branches from April 24 to May 24, 2012.  You can find their outlets and counters at Paragon, Robinson, Emporium, Zen and The Mall.

As a background, AIIZ is a popular clothing brand of the Reno Group which was founded in 1992.  It has today become a leading fashion retailer with over 400 stores and outlets across Thailand; and it besides, it also exports to several countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

While AIIZ brand is a young casual brand targeting teenagers, "AIIZ Career" aims for the working ladies, and there is also the "AIIZ XII" brand for children's clothing.

MegaBangna

Megabangna is the latest addition to Bangkok's ever-expanding collection of shopping malls.  Opening in May 2012, Mega Bangna is a "mega mall" - purported to be the first low-rise super regional mall in Southeast Asia.  With everything under one roof, the main anchor tenants of the mall are: Robinson Department Store, Big C Extra, HomePro, Mega Cineplex and IKEA store - yes, IKEA is also part of this gigantic complex.   It is located in the suburbs of east Bangkok, technically in the neighbouring province of Samut Prakarn, on the Bangna-Trad highway Km 8.

The Mall has only 2 levels and is divided into 9 zones: Mega Food, Mega Fashion, Mega Kids, Mega Tech, Mega Home, Mega Wellness, Mega Sports, Mega Banking and Mega Lifestyle.  There are over 300 retailers in the realm of fashion boutiques, children's stores, home decor, IT & electronics, sports equipment, beauty & wellness.  Besides, there are over 100 cafes and restaurants!  As it is a huge shopping mall, you might want to leave any ideas about covering the entire complex in one day.  IKEA is a very large place in itself and deserves a whole day to do it justice.  The best way to get there, if you don't have your own transportation, is to get on the BTS skytrain and get off at Udomsuk station, where there is free shuttle bus service to the mega mall.
